Chiringuito El Poniente sits along Playa Ballena, one of those dependable beach spots where the setting does most of the talking — tables in the sand, the sound of the water just a few metres away, and a steady flow of people coming and going throughout the day.
The menu follows the local script: rice dishes, grilled sardines, fried fish, with a few extras like tuna tartare and octopus that add a bit of variation. It’s not trying to reinvent anything, just doing the classics well enough to keep people coming back. Most tables end up sharing a mix of dishes, especially at lunch.
Less polished than some of the newer beach clubs, but that’s exactly the point. This is straightforward, familiar, and easy to settle into. It can get busy at weekends, so arriving a little earlier than peak lunch hours usually makes for a more relaxed experience.
