What To Do
Explore activities, local experiences, and places to visit around Costa Ballena.
Costa Ballena is more than a coastal resort — it’s a place where people live, visit, return, and gradually find their rhythm. This site is built as a practical guide to life here: where to eat, what to do, local services, and what’s happening locally and beyond — whether you’re visiting for a week, staying longer, or already part of the community.
Set on Andalusia’s southern Atlantic coast, between Rota and Chipiona, Costa Ballena feels both relaxed and distinctive. Days begin with sea breezes and often end with colourful sunsets over the ocean, while the wide open setting gives the area a naturally calm rhythm.
With a 27-hole golf course designed by José María Olazábal and a Blue Flag beach stretching for miles, it’s a natural base for people who enjoy the outdoors. Just as important, it also opens the door to the wider Cádiz province — from traditional flamenco and the famous Carthusian horses to Sierra de Cádiz with its White Villages and Mountain Scenery

At the centre of Costa Ballena are its wide Atlantic beaches and its open 27-hole coastal golf course — two defining elements that shape daily life here.
The beach in Rota, Costa Ballena, and Chipiona stretches for kilometres, with wide sandy shores and easy access from the resort. Even in summer, when it can get busy, there’s usually more space here than on many nearby beaches. It’s ideal for long walks, swimming, or simply spending time by the Atlantic.
The BeachCosta Ballena Golf is a 27-hole course by the Atlantic, known for its open layout and wide fairways. The coastal breeze is part of the experience, often shaping how the course plays. Its practice facilities are exceptional — a grass driving range measuring 345 metres wide and 350 metres deep, accommodating up to 120 players, along with extensive short-game areas — widely considered among the best in Europe.
The Golf Course“What stood out most was how easy everything felt. The beaches are wide and never feel crowded, even on a good day, and there are plenty of relaxed places to eat by the sea. In the evenings, we often found ourselves just watching the sun go down over the Atlantic. It’s a calm, unpretentious place — and that’s exactly why we enjoyed it.”
“Costa Ballena is a course you can play often without getting bored. The 13th by the beach was my favourite — the wind off the Atlantic really comes into play there. The practice facilities are excellent, and the whole place has a relaxed feel that makes it easy to enjoy your golf.”
“Evenings here tend to revolve around food by the sea. We often ended up at one of the beachside places around sunset — simple setting, fresh fish, and the sound of the waves in the background. The fried puntillitas quickly became a favourite, and the gambas al ajillo were always spot on. It’s not about fine dining, but about enjoying good food in the right setting.”
