2025 Spain Sail Grand Prix Returns to Cádiz, October 4-5
The Spain Sail Grand Prix is set to make its exciting return to Cádiz on October 4-5, 2025. This thrilling event will feature high-performance F50 foiling catamarans racing at speeds exceeding 50 knots (92 km/h) in the waters off the historic coastal city.
Competition Format
The two-day event will follow SailGP’s established format with three fleet races scheduled for Saturday, October 4, followed by two additional fleet races and the decisive match race final on Sunday, October 5. The top three teams from the weekend’s fleet races will advance to the final match race, where they’ll compete for maximum points in the season standings.
Teams to Watch
Twelve national teams are expected to compete, including the defending season champion Spain SailGP Team led by Diego Botín, who made history by winning the 2023-24 SailGP championship. The Spanish team will face fierce competition from three-time champion Tom Slingsby’s Australia SailGP Team and Peter Burling’s New Zealand SailGP Team, who finished second and third respectively in the previous season.
The 2024-25 season has expanded with the addition of two new teams: Mubadala Brazil SailGP Team and Italy SailGP Team, bringing fresh competition to the circuit.
Cádiz: A Proven Venue
Cádiz has established itself as a regular stop on the SailGP circuit, having previously hosted events during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. The Bay of Cádiz offers ideal racing conditions with consistent winds and a natural amphitheater that provides excellent viewing opportunities for spectators.
As one of the key events in the global championship, the Spain Sail Grand Prix in Andalucía-Cádiz promises to deliver world-class racing action and play a crucial role in determining which teams advance to the season finale with a chance to win the championship’s $1 million prize.
