Exhibitions, music and festive december streets
While Rota’s old town fills with zambombas and market stalls, Chipiona spends December weaving Christmas into its everyday rhythm. Exhibitions open in small cultural centres, bands set up on street corners, and the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Regla and the castle by the sea become natural landmarks in the programme rather than postcard backdrops.
For anyone staying in Costa Ballena, Chipiona is close enough for an easy evening wander: a short drive, a stroll past the lighthouse and seafront, and you’re suddenly in the middle of local Christmas life rather than a big organised show.
Below you’ll find an overview of what’s on in December – first the long-running exhibitions, then the main day-by-day highlights.

For the rest of the dates in December, Chipiona’s programme is centred on the ongoing art exhibitions at Peña El Chusco, the temporary halls in the castle and Edificio San Fernando, plus the Diego Montalbán show from 19 December onwards. On quieter days, that simply means more space to stroll the seafront, visit the lighthouse and finish with a drink on a terrace before heading back along the coast to Costa Ballena.
