Women’s Octagonal Golf Tournament: Spain Seeks Third Consecutive Title

Costa Ballena Ocean Golf Club will host the annual International Women’s Octagonal Golf Tournament from February 12–15, 2025.

Participating Teams & Format

Eight national teams — Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Spain — will compete in this amateur team match play event. Spain enters as the two-time defending winner (2023, 2024) and faces challenges from seven European squads. The tournament follows a two-stage structure:

  1. Group Stage: Teams split into two pools of four for round-robin matches.
  2. Knockout Phase: Top two teams from each group advance to semifinals, followed by finals and placement matches.

Historical Context

First held in 2018 as a four-team event, the tournament expanded to eight teams by 2024. Past winners include Sweden (2019, 2020), Finland (2022), and Spain’s recent back-to-back victories. The 2025 edition marks Spain’s bid for a historic three-peat.

Venue & Logistics

Costa Ballena Ocean Golf Club, a frequent training site for European teams, features an 18-hole course designed by José María Olazabal. The club’s coastal location tests players with variable winds and strategic hazards. The event underscores the growth of women’s amateur golf in Europe, serving as a platform for emerging talent ahead of professional careers. Admission is free.
